Liska’s Enduring Spiritual Legacy
Liska, established as a hub of Jewish cultural and religious life in the 1800s, holds an important place in history. Every year, thousands honor Tzvi Hirsh Liska, also known as Hershele Lisker, in Liska. The village hosts more than 500 Jewish historical sites, including cemeteries and places of worship that represent a rich heritage. By the late 19th century, the Jewish population of Liska reached nearly 3,000, enriching its cultural environment. Liska’s influence extends beyond its borders, reaching nearby towns like Kerestir and impacting Jewish life across Hungary. About 5,000 pilgrims and tourists visit Liska each year, drawn by its historical and spiritual atmosphere.
